New Beads
A few new or returning items.
Blue Topaz Rondell
Fat squashed circles. Dyed bright blue; will rinse to soft icy
blue. A few minor inclusions.
Peridot Rondell
No picture is available for these yet. I only have two bags
available, so I figured I'd give 'em a chance to sell sight-unseen before
putting the time into pictures! Your basic Peridot beads. They are
the same size and shape as all the other new Rondell beads. They have some
inclusions typical of low-grade Peridot.
Citrine Rondell
Another favorite stone in a favorite shape. Again, some inclusions
are expected.
Garnet Baby Faceted Nugget
I got these at a bead show last year, and sort of set them aside and forgot
about them for a while. They are really small (2-4mm) faceted
nuggets. Extremely high-quality Garnet, and very well cut. Highly
recommended; these will look good against tiny gold beads.
Tourmaline Rondell
My favorite stone! Small packets of ten beads of whatever color (or
combo) you choose. Pink, green, watermelon, black, light blue, or
rainbow--it's up to you.
Malachite Round
Small dark green beads. Not the greatest quality of Malachite--there
is minimal banding, and the beads are so small (3mm) that it would be hard to
see any banding anyway. But they would make excellent accents alongside
metallic beads.

Stone Fun Facts
Jet
** Jet is a black stone that is comprised of a coal called Lignite.
It is from ancient trees that burned and fossilized. It is the only
gemstone that is naturally pure black. It is sometimes called Black Amber,
because it is organic like Amber and comes from trees, but it really is not
related to Amber.
** Due to its composition of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon, Jet can be
burned. In ancient times, it was burned and the smoke used to ward off
evil spirits.
** Jet is a fairly soft material, but lends itself well to carving.
In Victorian times, Jet was often made into intricately carved beads and
buttons. Back then, it was believed to be a good stone to wear in
mourning, as it was thought to bring grief to the surface to be healed. It
was also used to protect against the evil eye, and against thunderstorms.
To dream of jet was thought to foreshadow upcoming sorrow.
** Metaphysical healers recognize the power of Jet as a natural organic
material. It is thought to enable the wearer to tap into the ancient
wisdom and power of Mother Earth, and to draw power and knowledge to the
wearer. It is also thought to stabilize finances.
** Like Amber, Jet has an electrical charge, and will pick up little bits
of paper when rubbed.

News and Stuff
When I first got online about six years ago, I was
pleased with the things you could learn from websites. Always a lover of
new information, I have gotten some really good use out of the Internet.
But recently I have been noticing that a lot of people don't really use the
Internet to explained their own knowledge base, but rather as a tool to gain
information ABOUT information.
For example, in researching the Stone Fun Facts
every week, my usual procedure is to look up "[name of stone] properties" on
search engines, pull up lots of resulting websites, and compile information from
there. I jot it down, organize it in relevant groups, and write it out in
my own language. I also usually try to interject a personal tidbit here
and there--my own experiences with the stone, an odd fact I remember from
childhood, a particularly alluring feature, etc.
But in pulling up these information websites, I
have noticed that a great many of them are not original. So many times, I
go from site to site, finding the exact same information, not just in content,
but in exact execution as well. The fact that many sites share the same
wording, phrasing, and even occasional spelling or punctuation errors, is proof
that too many people offering information about gemstones on their respective
sites are only copying and pasting things they discovered on other sites.
In other words, many of the people who provide this information didn't really
use the Internet to gain information about the STONES, but to gain information
about INFORMATION about the stones. Too often, copying and pasting is
taking the place of actual research, experience, discovery, and
discussion.
I am thoroughly pleased to assure you that all of
Ephemerala's Stone Fun Facts are the result of actual research, learning,
and discovery on my part. Each is 100% unique, incorporating my own
wording and my own organization. The Fun Facts you read in this newsletter
and on my site have never appeared elsewhere, and are completely my own words,
based on available resources. You will never find any of my Stone Fun
Facts, exactly as they are written, anywhere else online.
(Unless, of course, someone eventually copies and
pastes MY stuff!)

Insider's Special
Jerry's Choice
My husband's birthday falls within this fortnight, so he got to choose the
sale. He asked me if I had any chips that had blue lightning
flashes. He wanted the blue flashes to look "Ominous, like something Darth
Sidious would have flying from his fingers." (He's a serious Star Wars
fan.) I don't know if we really have anything QUITE like that, but I
felt that the blue fire of Moonstone and Labradorite would suffice! This
week, you may buy any number of bags of 50 chip beads in Rainbow Moonstone,
Labradorite, and Blue Labradorite (much more blue flash than regular
Labradorite) for just 75 cents per bag. There is no limit.
Jerry's Lightning Flash Offer is good through March 27,
2005.
