New Beads
Black Onyx Rondell
A good standard stone in a favorite shape.  Smooth black hand-cut beads.

Red Chalcedony Nugget
Big, round, brilliantly colored beads.

Kunzite Chip
Our newest "Most Expensive Bead."  Kunzite is terribly rare and very sought-after.  They are nearly unheard-of in chip form (they are usually found in hexagonal beads, often costing as much as $10.00 PER BEAD!).  These are large, rough, crystalline chips that have a very low polish and show off the natural crystal structure of the gem.  Sold in bags of ten beads so you can sample them without too heavy a commitment.

Opaque Citrine Chip
Very nice, deep gold color with a bit of sparkle.

Citrine Tube
Nicely colored irregular long tube beads.

Peach Aventurine Tube
Pretty orange-peach colored long tubes.

Stone Fun Facts
Myrrh
** Even though we have it in the form of beads, Myrrh is not a gemstone.  It is the resinous sap from a desert tree called the dindin.  The sap forms in small beads and has a very sharp, strong smell.  (Our beads have a much more mild smell, because they were made from the by-product of the sap after the strong oils were removed.)
** Myrrh has been used since ancient times in perfumes, incense, and embalming.  The ancient Egyptians used Myrrh to preserve mummies.  Today, it is used in any application that warrants fragrance, such as candles, soaps, etc.  It is also found in several commercial mouthwashes.
** While it is usually known for its smell, Myrrh can also be used as a flavoring for candy and baked goods.  (Our Myrrh beads smell like cinnamon-vanilla cookie dough, and my 9-month-old baby loves to chew on his own strand!)
** Myrrh has a large number of healing uses.  It is an astringent and antiseptic, and can be used to cure acne, boils, and other inflammations of the skin.  It is also widely used to help heal infections of the mouth, such as gingivitis, ulcers, and bad breath.  It is highly useful in applications of the throat, and is thought to help heal pharyngitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma, and sore throat.  It can be used as an expectorant (cough syrup).
** Myrrh makes a helpful childbirth aid, making contractions more efficient, and relieving pain.
** The word "myrrh" comes from the Arabic murr, meaning "bitter."
** The ancients found this resin to be so valuable, the Bible tells of it being given as a gift, along with Frankincense (another aromatic resin) and Gold to the baby Jesus.
** Modern science has recently discovered that Myrrh may be a cure for cancer!  Laboratory studies show that a compound in Myrrh was effective in killing breast cancer cells.  More research on this is currently in the works.

News and Stuff
No Longer the Fastest Shipper in Town
For several years of eBay selling, and then later online store selling, customers were generally pretty happy with my shipping times.  My eBay feedback used to reflect this regularly.  I usually processed the order a day after receiving payment, then shipped.  From the wonderful Post Offices in Salt Lake City, my packages could often have a ship time of two or three days.
Recently, I have been getting more and more customer inquiries as to when their packages were sent.  It is not uncommon to hear from two or three people a week, who wonder, a week of more after the purchase date, where their stuff is.  For a while I had become a bit lax on the processing times, often letting paid orders sit for several days until I processed them all in one big effort.  When the e-mails about late shipping started to come, I went back to my old habit of processing orders the same day as payment received, and shipping the very next day.
Yet, the e-mails are still coming.  I can only surmise, then, that now that I've moved to a rural area in southern Utah, my local postal service is a lot slower.  No matter how quickly my turnaround (sometimes I ship on the same day payment is received!), my packages still often show up a week or more after.
If any of my subscribers have noticed that their packages are later than they used to be, please accept my apologies, and know that I am doing everything I can to assure a timely delivery.  I have even taken to adding the 4-number add-on to the ZIP code, to help your packages there quicker, so hopefully this will speed things up!
