New Items
All Sorts of Odds & Ends
This week I am cleaning up my site, adding pictures to existing listings, and generally getting all those bits and pieces where they belong.  This week we have a nice hodgepodge--a little something for everyone!

Chrysotile Chip Beads
What is Chrysotile?  Well, it's what asbestos is made out of, for one thing!  Am I just making these stones up now?  Seriously, who has ever heard of Chrysotile?  A nice warm mixture of reds, golds, and yellows.

Blue Chalcedony Chip Beads
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the single most expensive bead in my store?  A lot of people really like Blue Chalcedony, so I am making it available, but personally I would just go with Blue Lace Agate, which is essentially the same color.  Blue Chalcedony doesn't have white bands, though, and it's glassier than Blue Lace.  It's incredibly pretty, but I don't understand why it is so expensive.  Anyway, here it is for those who really, REALLY want it!

Lodalite Chip Beads
This is what you might call "Dirty Quartz," as it is clear quartz with lots of colored occlusions and junk in it.  I personally think it is wonderful, so don't let the "Dirty Quartz" thing stop you.  Shinier than Black Rutilated Quartz, this is like Quartz with attitude.

Big Huge Round Garnet Beads
Seriously big, 12mm or so round beads, solid Garnet.  Too strange to be believed; you have to see them.  Garnet apparently is cloudy in its massive state, so these have almost NO translucency, and they are so dark it's sort of hard to see the deep red color.  Buy them to make interesting chunky jewelry and impress your friends!  "Oh yes, these are real garnets!"  (Then hand them my business card.)

Citrine Brick Beads
Nicely hand-cut clear yellow beads.  Good quality, very pretty.

Kambaba Jasper Long Chip Beads
Another freaky stone.  This is a black stone mottled with dark green.  These are not regular chips, they are long (or "Hawaiian") chips, so they are in the Misc. Beads category instead of regular chips.  I'd love to get these in regular chips eventually, though.  Use these to make really dramatic necklaces.

Faceted Square Beads
So pretty!  An assortment of gemstones make up these lovely beads, 8mm on a side.  These will look nice against Pearls or Clear Quartz.  Sold individually, your choice of stone.

Clear Quartz Mini Eggs
I haven't had any new gemstone eggs in a while.  These are good semi-clear Quartz specimens of about an inch long.

Rose Quartz Mini-Marbles
Cute!  I bought a handful of these tiny marbles, and am offering them for just a buck each.  Lots are available, so have a ball!  (Literally.)

Tiger Eye Marbles
These are just gorgeous, strong chatoyancy, very striking.

Malachite Marbles
I couldn't believe my luck in obtaining five of this incredibly rare stone in marble form!  These marbles are sort of wobbly, as if they weren't quite ground down before they were polished.  (Did the maker just get bored?)  So you won't want to use these as real marbles (do you anyway?), but as display items they work fine, as it's hard to tell they are wobbly unless you run your fingers over them.  If you've been looking for Malachite at a good price and are willing to have a second-quality sphere made out of a top-quality stone, you can't do any better.

Stone Fun Facts
Smoky Quartz
** Please see general information on Quartz HERE.
** Smoky Quartz is named for its color, which is light tan or brown or gray.  The color is thought to be the result of chemical impurities in the quartz, but it is also widely believed that the color is due to small amounts of radiation.  Natural Smoky Quartz usually occurs in rocks with a small but persistent amount of radioactivity, and the stone is sometimes artificially created by irradiating Clear Quartz to darken it.
** The color of Smoky Quartz is rather rare in the mineral world, as there are only a few other naturally dark brown stones.
** There are three famous types of Smoky Quartz:
~ Cairngoran--A light color that originates in Scotland.
~ Morion--A dark brown or black variety.
~ Coon Tail--A dark and light striped type.
** Smoky Quartz is thought to be a warm, soothing stone, bringing calm and comfort to the wearer.  It helps to heal grief, and promotes creativity.
** Smoky Quartz is said to be beneficial to groups, fostering cooperation.  (You mothers of young kids out there might try adorning your active children with Smoky Quartz to see if it helps them get along!)
** The energy in Smoky Quartz is more subtle than the energy of Clear Quartz, so the effects of the stone happen gradually.
** This stone carries the anchoring energies of the earth, and is helpful in creating a deeper appreciation of the earth, and a greater concern for the environment.
** Smoky Quartz is the gemstone for the 70th wedding anniversary.

Dollar Off Shipping for Return Customers
We now offer $1.00 off shipping on all orders of $10.00 or more for returning customers.  You should get a coupon in your next package, but if I forget, or if you get the coupon but go slightly past the expiration date, feel free to take the dollar off anyway.

Still Trouble with AOL
For about a month now I have not been able to get any messages through to my AOL subscribers.  I think AOL must have upgraded its spam filters and is automatically rejecting my e-mail.  On the off chance any of my AOL folks manage to get this message, please update your spam filter to accept dallape@charter.net.  I feel badly that about 30 of my subscribers (some of whom are regular customers) are not getting this newsletter, and I don't have any way of contacting them.  I don't want anyone to think I am neglecting her or him!  If anyone out there has some sort of workaround that might enable me to slip past the spam filters, please let me know!

Ring Into 2005
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

I first read these words by Alfred, Lord Tennyson a couple of years ago, and for some reason they always comfort me.  These days I happen to have a lot of ringing out of the false I wish to do, so I find myself repeating this poem quite often.  To celebrate the New Year, all Rings will be on sale.  As 2004 turns into 2005, so do four purchases become five.  When you buy four rings, I will include a fifth one free.  Free ring(s) will be my choice and might be of any size, stone, or style.  There is no limit to the number of free rings you may earn, so RING IN THE NEW!
You can shop on eBay,

Ring Into 2005 Offer is good through January 9, 2005.
