New Items
Not a lot of new items this fortnight; I have been spending
time working on new pages are rearranging some old ones. It's good to sort
of freshen up the place now and then. Still, there are some cool items
showing up today.
New Eggs Page
Up until this point, I have put the large (chicken-sized or
bigger) eggs on the same page as the mini eggs. I have now created a page
just for the larger eggs. I haven't yet listed everything I have, but you
can check out the initial effort here:
New Spheres Page
Similarly, I have quite a few gemstone spheres that cannot be
put on the Marbles page. They now have their own page. If you love
spheres, bookmark this page and check it out every week, as I add new ones one
by one. We have a couple dozen to list altogether, so this plans to be a
very nice page.
Amber Page
I've been getting in so many Amber products that I thought
they warranted their own page. Here's where you'll find the new home of
the Amber Chip Beads, as well as rough Amber, and our most exciting new
product--Amber with Insects!
Amber Beads
The new home for the Amber Chip Beads, and soon I'll be
listing a couple of individual beads with insects.
Amber with Insects
Terribly cool, these. Amber with insects imbedded in it
is pretty rare, so I was lucky to get these at a fairly good price. (Amber
specimens that contain insects can often be as much as $40 each.) My new
Favorite Item.
Misc. Amber
Here's where I've placed our Boxes of Amber Resin, and a new
product--rough Amber chunks.

Stone Fun Facts
The Pain of Copyright
Infringement
Now I know how real
authors feel.
Every so often, I do a search
for "Ephemerala" to see on what other sites my store name is popping up. I
recently found several website owners who have taken the information from my
Stone Fun Facts page and reprinted it on their own sites and/or eBay listings,
with no acknowledgement to me.
Now, some of you may recall my rant
about cutting and pasting information. In a
nutshell, I intensely dislike the practice of creating "information" pages where
all that the site owner has done is copy and paste information he or she found
on another site. I find this all the time while looking up info on the
gems for the Stone Fun Facts pages. Now I have found I am a victim of this
sort of mindless theft. Several people have copied my
copyrighted information and pasted it onto their sites and listings. And
to make things worse, several didn't bother to proofread, as some pages contain
lines like "Learn more about agate here..." just plain with no link to show you
where "here" is, or, "You can only find these stones here at Ephemerala," when
the site is NOT Ephemerala and there is no information as to what Ephemerala
might be! Can you imagine someone coming to these sites and getting
frustrated by these teasers?
I wrote to the owners of a couple of
the sites, saying that I was fine with their reprinting the info, but to please
provide acknowledgement and a link to my site. One eventually gave me
acknowledgement, but failed to provide a link. Another one agreed to do
it, but after three weeks still has not.
It seems like such a small issue, but
I can't express how disappointed I am about this. It's bad enough to
find this sort of nonsense all over the web when you are trying to find
information, but to actually be a part of it against my will is very
dispiriting. I spend a good amount of time researching the stones,
collecting information, compiling it, and putting it down in logical and easy to
understand paragraphs, because I care about giving people fresh
information, and to see that work so blatantly stolen from my site really irks
me.
As always, I assure everyone here
that the info you will find on the Stone Fun Facts page is 100% my own
writing. If you ever find anyone else talking about how you can get this
stone "here at Ephemerala," or find phrases that ring strangely familiar, just
remember who did the legwork.

News & Stuff
Welcome to the Dungeon
The room in which we store most of our stuff is a large storage cellar
without a window, which is dark and spooky enough to warrant the nickname "The
Dungeon." The Dungeon is always a work in progress, as more items come in
and more organizing is needed. I enjoy messing around in this room,
finding new ways to store things in easy reach. We now have a new fun
picture page on our site that shows The Dungeon in all its scary underground
glory. The page itself, like The Dungeon, is also a work in progress, so
please ignore the corny language and the sloppy pictures. Eventually we'll
get it cleaned up (the page AND The Dungeon!), and it will make a nice view for
the buyers. Enjoy!
Fortnightly Sale
Buy 5 Get 1 FREE on EVERYTHING!
I am trying a new idea. In two months I will
have a booth at our local fair, and am hoping to have a sale whereby for every
five same-priced items you buy, you will get the sixth one free. I figured
I'd go ahead and try it out here this fortnight. So here's the deal.
For every group of five (5) similar and same-priced items you buy, I will throw
in a sixth one free. This applies to EVERYTHING in the store.
Everything. Beads, jewelry, rocks, fragrances, even the biggies like salt
lamps and value packs. Yes, EVERYTHING.
There are a few rules. The first five items
should be similar. For example, five bags of beads, five assorted
pendants, five bookmarks, five rings, etc. Prices should be close, but in
some cases (such as varying types of beads) the prices may be off by a dollar or
two; that's fine. Items do NOT need to be exactly the same; that is,
you don't have to buy five turquoise heart pendants to get a free pendant--five
assorted stone pendants will suffice--but they should come from the same
general group.
The freebie(s) will be our choice, and will be
similar to the items you bought. There is NO LIMIT on this sale, so you
can buy as many groups of five items as you like and get freebies on each group
of five. Have a ball!
This Fortnight's Sale is good through July 16,
2006
Penny Sale
Every two weeks, I hide a new special offer somewhere on my online
site. This listing will offer a certain product for ONE CENT, with any
purchase of $10.00 or more. The item and its location will change every
two weeks, so be sure to look often. Simply go to my online store
site:
and browse until you find the hidden listing. Add it to your cart,
along with the rest of your $10.00+ order, and it will be included for just a
penny. Happy Hunting!
(Recent keen-eyed customers got a NUGGET PENDANT for a
penny. What will you be able to get this week?)
Insider's Special
Anniversary Freebies!
Not only does this week contain the Glorious Fourth, but that day is
also Suzanne & Jerry's 13th wedding anniversary. It's our
anniversary, but you guys will get the gift. The traditional gemstone
gifts for the 13th anniversary are malachite, citrine, and moonstone, so this
week my special customers will get a bauble of one of these stones as a free
gift. I'll pick something similar to what you are buying, and if you are
buying something non-gem-related, I'll just throw in some random freebie.
All I ask is that, after you place your order, you drop me a line to let me know
you are on the mailing list, so I will remember to include your freebie.
This Fortnight's Insider's Sale is good through July 16,
2006
