Long time no write...
It's been several months since our last newsletter.  The combination of two out-of-town trips, preparation for out-of-town visitors, and a historically slow season has gotten me lazy about the business for a while.  Sales are starting to pick up, and we're about to launch some great new items, so we're getting the newsletter back in gear for the summer.  This newsletter will mainly announce a new sale and assorted news tidbits (no new items), but next fortnight I promise we'll be back to normal!

Stone Fun Facts
Opalite
** Several of our stones are actually glass.  This one is our only PLASTIC stone!  Opalite is made of a plastic resin, designed to look like Rainbow Moonstone.  It has a milky color with a distinct blue fire tone.  Held against a white background, it has a yellowish tinge.
** While glass stones like Goldstone or Cherry Quartz carry the physical (and sometimes health) properties of natural glasses such as pure Quartz or Obsidian, Opalite, being plastic, has no known healing properties.
** Opalite is also known as Moonstone Quartz, Opalized Quartz, Gerisol, Lunar Quartz, and Sea Opal.
** Opalite originated in Hong Kong, and was introduced to the gem trade in 1988.
** It is very lightweight (good for earrings), and soft, so it doesn't make good fine jewelry, but it is good for costume jewelry.
** There is another, genuine, stone called Moss Opalite, which is a type of Opal.

News & Stuff
MDA Fundraiser a Great Success
With the help of our great customers, we managed to raise over $2,400 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association last month.  To remind everyone of our situation, we recently discovered our son has Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy.  My husband, Jerry, participated in the MDA's Lock Up program in order to raise money.  Ephemerala donated 50% of all sales for three weeks, and offered Gift Certificates to everyone who made his or her own donation.  I am pleased with our collective success, and we managed to send four children to MDA summer camp this year!

USPS Rates Changed
In the last newsletter, I mentioned the United States Postal Service rate hike, and figured that we would be able to keep our old shipping charges.  Wow, how wrong was I?  I hadn't studied the new rate schedule until it came time to mail a package.  Not only did they raise the rates for weight (which is expected), but they also now take package thickness into consideration.  Any flat package that is more than 3/4" thick is considered a parcel rather than a flat, and is subjected to a much higher rate.  Some of these fees don't make much sense.  One day, I shipped a small bubble mailer with a single marble in it, and a larger bubble mailer with lots of bags of beads in it.  Despite being larger AND heavier, the big package of beads cost LESS to ship than the marble did, because the marble's thickness put it into the "parcel" category!  I am thinking of investing in the larger sized bubble mailers, because spreading several bags of beads thinly out over a larger mailer costs less to ship than cramming them into a smaller mailer!
At any rate, we've regrettably had to raise our base shipping fee from one dollar to two dollars, to accommodate the new USPS rates.  Our add-on costs (the amount added on per item) stays the same.

New Spam Woes
In the past, I have complained about the abundance of spam messages that appeared on our Guest Book (which eventually forced me to remove the Guest Book entirely).  Now the spammers have found a different way to sell their weight loss pills and male enhancement programs.  When my son Cedric was born last year, I set up a page of pictures, to show my friends and family as well as Ephemerala browsers.  I set the page up using the Guest Book format so that well-wishers could leave a little message if they wished.  Well, the spammers found that page, and are now leaving their disgusting messages all over it.  This practice has always distressed me, and now that they are doing it on a newborn baby's photo page just blows my mind.  There seems to be no escape from these jerks.  Take a look for yourself:

Vacation Pictures
For those who like the "Home Front" pictures, here are a few from our two recent vacations.  (No Guest Book function on this page!)  Now you can see what we were doing instead of listing new products.

Fortnightly Sale
Discounts on Incense, Oils, and Accessories!
Start your summer off lazily burning incense and fragrance oils in the warm evening air.  This fortnight, we have cut the prices of all our incense and fragrance oils, as well as all incense and oil burners, by 50 cents to a dollar.  Choose from a HUGE variety of stick incense (50 different scents) and fragrance oils (over 100 different scents!), and finish the order with an incense holder or a brass light oil warming ring.  Myself, I like to keep a variety of oils near my bedside lamp, and put a few drops of whatever strikes my fancy into my brass light ring, to warm up and diffuse the fragrance throughout the room.  My kids prefer the stick incense; choosing fragrances to send them to sleep at night.  Every house can benefit from a fragrance boost!
This Fortnight's Sale is good through July 1, 2007

Penny Sale
Every two weeks, I hide a new special offer somewhere on my online site.  This listing will offer a certain product for ONE CENT, with any purchase of $10.00 or more.  The item and its location will change every two weeks, so be sure to look often.  Simply go to my online store site:
and browse until you find the hidden listing.  Add it to your cart, along with the rest of your $10.00+ order, and it will be included for just a penny.  Happy Hunting!
(Recent keen-eyed customers got a bag of CAT'S EYE ROUND BEADS for a penny!  What will you be able to get this week?)
