Problems with CityMax
26 Nov 2007

I have often complained about eBay in one form or another, but now for the first time ever, I have a complaint about CityMax, which is the company that carries my website. If you have looked at any of our listings in the last two weeks, you'll notice they traded in their old yellow "Add to Cart" button for a supposedly more contemporary button. The new button has pastel colors, which is bad enough. But I could forgive the color change if the new button hadn't been designed slightly bigger than the old one. The result is that it overlaps with all of my listings! While the listings used to go all the way to the right edge of the page, now they are sort of "stopped" by the Add To Cart button. (You probably noticed that when you clicked on the links above in the "New Items" section.) And the button itself covers the header in some listings, and is hidden behind the header in some listings (with the result that the "Checkout" link is sometimes inaccessible). The listings look terrible, each and every one of them. I have contacted CityMax to ask if there is anything that can be changed. I am NOT looking forward to the prospect of revising close to a thousand individual listings just to get the text down two lines. Plus, in experimenting with changing the HTML code, I have found that the listings are not affected the same; some of them need more line breaks than others, which means I'll have to change each listing, then go back to look at it, and perhaps make more changes. And after the changes, there is a huge block of white space between the price/thumbnail and the actual text of the listing. (Check out this sample listing, now changed: LISTING. See what I mean about the excessive white space?) I've been told they are going to fix the problem, but other than reducing the size of the current buttons or going back to the old ones (please???), I can't see what they can do. This is one of the reasons we have so few new items this month--I didn't want to waste time listing items if I was going to have to revise them. We'll wait and see what happens.
