CityMax Actually Listened!
CityMax Actually Listened!
13 Jan 2008

After years of griping about eBay coming up with new "improvements" that everyone hates but which eBay ultimately doesn't do anything about because they are not well-known for satisfying their sellers, I was all set to put CityMax on that list as well. To refresh your memory, my website's host, CityMax, recently changed their previously acceptable "Add to Cart" buttons to a slightly larger version, which interfered with the look of all of my listings. The button covered the text in some listings, and hid behind the text in others. I wrote to them about it, and they replied that they would try to do "something," but after some time I started to realize that the buttons were not going to change, and that I was ultimately going to have to change 1,200 listings to accommodate the new button size.

Well lo and behold, take a look at our listings now! The "Add to Cart" button is thin and manageable, with the "View Cart" and "Checkout" links being small text above the button. The entire thing looks even better than the original buttons!

For years I have been encouraging anyone who wants to open a web store to go with CityMax. For about $16 a month, you can have a place to list 500 items, show 500 web pages, and upload 500 photos. (If you need any more than these numbers, you can upgrade for an additional fee.) The shopping cart is built into the site, and it gives you the option of accepting credit cards through their merchant account OR to collect credit card numbers to use with your own merchant account, AND it is integrated with PayPal for easy payments that way. You can create FAQs (I used this format for my Stone Fun Facts page), upload videos and sound files, generate maps to your business, conduct polls, create calendars, generate forms and autoresponders, collect newsletter subscribers (and write and send newsletters), and set discount codes to be used by customers at checkout. You can use their text editor or create your listings yourself with HTML. Every time I have had a problem it has been resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. Do I sound like an advertisement? They are not paying me. I always recommended this host, and after this most recent problem and its resolution, I redouble my enthusiasm for this company. Want a web store? Sign up with CityMax!
